If you see a simple logo, you may think to yourself, it wouldn’t take much time to come up with something like that. It’s true that if I wanted to draw that current Apple logo or the Nike Swoosh from scratch, it would take about fifteen minutes at most.

Of course, that’s silly.  Logo creation is a process.  Simple, elegant design is just as difficult to achieve as some complicated design.  Scale, proportion, shape, color all must be perfect for the logo to work.  If there is less there to rely on,then it must be absolutely perfect.

I’ll get calls from new clients who tell me they know exactly what their logo should look like and that they just need us to put it in the right format.  Right.  Sometimes it helps to have the client give us a great concept.  Sometime it makes a project more complicated.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.  There is an infinite way to execute any concept.  Even when the logo concepts are narrowed down, we present several different executions for the client to view.  As I said, it’s a process.

Making design look easy is not easy.  Great design takes skill and hard work.  Sure, sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and your first attempt is great.  That is rare.

There is nothing easy about a simple logo.
